SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Webmail Systems Engineer to provide creative solutions to design,
enhance, tune, and expand the web-based front-end of client
customer-facing messaging platform. The applicant should have
intimate familiarity and deep experience with the Solaris and Linux
operating systems and their corresponding hardware platforms,
carrier-grade operational best practices, Java and Apache tuning, and
large scale web-farm design. The desired applicant will also have
experience dealing with non-technical business owners and
implementing business initiatives per documented requirements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Creative engineering and design work for improving and expanding
the efficiency, security, and performance of client messaging
platform.
2. Testing of proposed designs in lab environments to include
hardware, storage, OS, and application software installation;
designing, documenting, and carrying out test plans; and both cost
and technical analysis of results.
3. Implementing new designs into client production data center
including hardware, OS, and application installation.
4. Capacity planning, hardware sizing, and forecasting.
5. Tuning of J2EE applications, the Linux and Solaris operating
system, and all associated hardware for optimal performance.
6. Planning and implementing disaster recovery and high availability
for critical systems.
7. Troubleshooting of J2EE applications, operating system and
hardware problems.
8. Support team projects through full project lifecycle.
9. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with
business counterparts and make presentations when necessary.
10. Assist in the documentation of current and future systems.
Creation and maintenance of Visio diagrams.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Minimum of 5 years Solaris and Linux system administration or
system architecture experience in a carrier-class ISP environment.
2. 3 to 5 years experience in the setup, maintenance, tuning, and
testing of Java application servers (Resin, Tomcat, BEA, etc.) in a
large-scale web-farm environment. Only applicants meeting this
qualification will be interviewed.
3. Previous systems architecture and email messaging platform design
experience is highly desired.
4. Previous experience with the Openwave MX email platform is a
definite plus.
5. Previous Java development experience a plus.
6. Script development with bash, perl, php, etc. is required.
7. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Must
be extremely comfortable giving both planned and impromtu
presentations and handling a constant barrage of questions from both
technical and non-technical parts of our organization.
8. Must be a strong ¿self-starter¿ who is able to think and work
independently, seek out new sources of information, develop new
skills, take responsibility for testing new designs, and champion new
ideas while remaining a cooperative, communicative, collegial, and
helpful member of our engineering team.
9. College degree required, with preference for Electrical/Computer
Engineering, Information Systems, or Computer Science.

Typical Training / Experience - Typically requires BS/BA or
Associates degree in related discipline; Generally 2-5 years of
experience in related field; certification is required in some areas
OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in related field.
Certification is required in some areas
